Jamie Carragher reacts to Bukayo Saka's performance for Arsenal last night

Arsenal drew 1-1 away at Manchester United on Monday night.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports (30/09/2019, 22:09) that he thought Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka was 'really good' against Manchester United.

The Gunners headed up to Old Trafford on Monday night for a big game against United, with neither side in particularly convincing form of late.

Arsenal have been a little better, but struggled to get going in a dour first half, which United just edged as Scott McTominay fired home a superb opening goal.

Unai Emery saw his side toil away searching for an equaliser, but they were gifted a goal as Axel Tuanzebe gave the ball away in his own half, and teenager Saka pounced on the ball to set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang fired home, and whilst the offside flag was bizarrely raised, VAR overruled the decision and gave Arsenal their goal, with the game finishing 1-1.

There really wasn't much quality on show, but winger Saka showed his potential with a mature display at the age of just 18, and he even came close to scoring as a close-range effort was deflected over the bar by Victor Lindelof.

After the final whistle, pundit Carragher hailed the teenage wide man, pointing out that he sensed an opportunity was there when Tuanzebe was preparing to pass to Lindelof, and he not only claimed possession but played a perfectly-weighted first-time pass to Aubameyang.

Carragher, as transcribed by Football.London , believes that Emery paid the teenager a huge compliment by leaving him on the pitch and substituting record signing Nicolas Pepe instead, and noted that this isn't the first time he's been impressed with Saka.

“He gets his assist,” said Carragher. “What I love about what he does is he reads and smells the danger. Watch his reaction, he thinks ‘something could happen’ and he’s making up ground to press Lindelof. Then to actually produce the weight of pass into Aubameyang. I thought he was really good tonight, I was really impressed with him, I was impressed in the European game against Eintracht Frankfurt. To come in at 18, away at Old Trafford in an Arsenal team that aren’t playing great and isn’t a great team, that role he had, not just in the goal but throughout the game, he can be really proud of his performance tonight.”

“The biggest compliment you can give him is that he took Pepe off when he could have brought the young lad off. 18, Old Trafford away from home but he takes the big money signing off. He was actually involved in physical battles and he’s willing to go at them. I saw him for the first time against Eintracht Frankfurt, he looked dangerous and aggressive, he was unfortunate to come off against Aston Villa because of the red card," he added.
