MPBL: Bataan, Manila take q’final openers

The Bataan Risers brought down the Caloocan Supremos in a one-sided game while the Manila Stars edged the Bulacan Kuyas to get a head start in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) playoffs best-of-three quarterfinals series late Tuesday night.

The top seeded Risers ripped the Supremos, 91-71, at home and is now a win away from booking a Final Four seat.

Ryan Batino finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds while veteran guard Pamboy Raymundo came away with 11 markers and 11 assists for Bataan.

Fourth-seeded Manila had to struggle before winning over No.5 ranked Bulacan, 69-65.

The Stars worked double time on defense as they tried to shackle the Kuyas’ high-scoring guards James Martinez and Jeric Canada.

Both players were held scoreless by the Stars’ airtight defense. Manila is now a win away from making the next round.
