— Nicolò Schira (@NicoSchira) July 12, 2020 Emerson Palmieri has failed to nail down a regular role at left-back since joining from Roma in January 2018. Inter Milan and Juventus are interested in the 25-year-old.

Tiemoue Bakayoko arrived at Chelsea from Monaco for an initial £40m fee in 2017 amid plenty of hype. He failed to impress in his debut season and has spent the last two seasons on loan at AC Milan and former club Monaco.

Jorginho, meanwhile, has found himself out of favour since the Premier League restart. He was back in the XI for Saturday's defeat at Sheffield United by virtue of Billy Gilmour and N'Golo Kante missing through injury.

Chelsea will need to qualify for next season's Champions League to have any hope of signing Havertz.

The Blues' hopes of a top-four finish were dealt a major blow in the 3-0 defeat at Bramall Lane.

Trending Defensive gaffes contributed to the defeat and former Premier League centre-back Matthew Upson believes that is the area Lampard needs to strengthen.

"If they want to compete for the title, it is an area they have to get sorted out," he told The Athletic .

“There is a lot of talk about who they will sign next. They seem to be heavily weighted in terms of attacking players, but centre-back should be the next port of call for them.

“I feel strengthening that area of the pitch is going to put Chelsea in the best position to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool next season.

“That would have the biggest impact on their team getting better.”
