Man Utd transfer Ed Woodward missed out on Erling Haaland deal due to two concerns

Erling Braut Haaland and his father Alf-Inge reportedly had concerns over the current direction of Manchester United and the path for young players at the club, reports have claimed after the teenage sensation sealed a switch to Borussia Dortmund .

There is now talk that Manchester United pulled the plug on the deal, but according to The Athletic , Haaland and his entourage had doubts about a move to Old Trafford.

The reports claim that they were impressed by the infrastructure in place at Dortmund, which laid bare the contrast to the current situation at Manchester United, who are not guaranteed to be playing Champions League football next season.

One source told The Athletic : “And unlike United, they [Dortmund] had a strong track-record of helping young players get to the next level at a club that has been a regular in the Champions League.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen on a reunion with his former player and flew to Salzburg for talks with the player’s entourage.

But it was Dortmund who pulled out on the stops to get the deal over the line before the turn of the year.

They allowed Haaland to visit their training ground where he spoke with manager Lucien Favre.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on the matter: “Well, Dortmund have signed a fantastic boy, I can’t answer more than that.”

Reports this week suggest that United actually pulled out of the deal, and were not beaten to the transfer by Dortmund.
