Liverpool transfer news: Reds 'very close' to completing Thiago transfer

Liverpool are on the verge of securing the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, as talks between the player's representatives and the Premier League champions are ramping up. That's according to a report in Spanish outlet SPORT , which claims Liverpool could get him for a bargain price.

The Reds have spent a minuscule amount in the last two years - their last big purchase coming two summers ago when they splashed out for Alisson Becker and Fabinho.

And as a result, they are expected to dip into the market this year, despite opting against signing Timo Werner for £53million.

According to SPORT, Thiago is close to becoming their first summer signing and is in advanced talks with the Reds.

However, tomorrow's DFB-Pokal cup final against Bayer Leverkusen could be his final appearance for the club.

The Spaniard is out of contract next summer and has told Bayern that he won't sign an extension.

The Bundesliga champions reportedly want €35m [£31m] for the midfielder, but Liverpool aren't willing to pay that.

However, if Bayern won't budge from their valuation, it remains possible that the Reds will pay in installments.

Bayern boss Hans Flick remains adamant that Thiago will remain at the club next season, however, and refuses to consider the possibility that he will leave.
