Liverpool make six players available for sale to raise transfer funds for Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could get the funds he needs to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window, as Reds chiefs have made six players available for sale. Klopp appears to have missed out on signing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner as the club claim they couldn't afford to trigger the player's £54million release clause.

The German international has agreed terms with Chelsea and is expected to be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group remain adamant they did not have the funds to conclude the deal, despite posting £42m ($53m) in profits in their latest set of accounts, alongside a record turnover of £533m ($671m).

But FSG are looking to raise funds for Klopp to reinvest in other transfer targets by selling six players this summer.

According to Goal , Liverpool are prepared to sell Divock Origi, Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri, Loris Karius, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic.

However, it remains to be seen if the Reds will be able to get significant amounts for these players this summer given the current climate of the transfer market.

Origi signed a four-year deal last summer, however, the Belgium international has only managed to score five goals in 36 games in all competitions this campaign, although 24 of those appearances did come off the bench.

Lovren had been linked with a move away from Anfield last summer but Klopp decided to keep the Croatian in his ranks. The 30-year-old's contract expires in 2021 and he has only made 14 appearances so far this campaign.

Shaqiri is another squad player who has fallen down the pecking order.

The 28-year-old has only featured in 10 games for Liverpool this season, for a total of 256 minutes, of which seven of those appearances being as a substitute.

Loris Karius terminated his two-year loan deal with Turkish side Besiktas this month.

The 26-year-old's last game for Liverpool came in the 2018 Champions League final loss against Real Madrid and his contract with the Reds expires in 2022.

Wilson is currently on a season-long loan at Bournemouth and he wants to hold talks with Klopp to seek clarification about his role in the squad when he returns to his parent club.

The 23-year-old is currently under contract until 2023, but his return of seven goals and two assists in 27 appearances for the Cherries has attracted the attention of Championship leaders Leeds United.

As for Grujic, the 24-year-old is currently on loan at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

This is the second straight season the Serbia international has been with the German club but he has admitted that he hasn't talked about his long-term future at Anfield.

"Honestly, we haven't talked about my future yet," he told German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel .

"But everyone in the club knows that I feel very comfortable and in good hands in Berlin - especially now that the new coach has come.

"Of course everyone has to work their minutes, but I'm very happy with my time in this regard.

"Let's see what happens in summer - Liverpool has a say in that."
