Yahoo Finance To Launch Standalone Apple TV App 12/12/2018

Coming soon to a TV set near you: streaming video from Yahoo Finance. The business news site owned by Verizon’s Oath will be getting a standalone app on Apple TV devices.

The app comes as Yahoo Finance prepares to significantly increase the amount of live market coverage it produces. In January 2019, Yahoo Finance will produce eight hours of live coverage each business day. That coverage will now be available on the Apple TV app, as will other original series and personal finance coverage.

Video will automatically start playing when users open the app, though they can search for on-demand content as well.

Yahoo Finance recently announced a distribution deal with Roku Channel to distribute its live content, so the deal with Apple now gives the site a presence on two of the largest OTT platforms.

Currently, the leading free business news streaming service is Cheddar, which is available on just about every streaming service and platform.

Bloomberg and CNBC also stream live content on some OTT platforms, though they are still tied to pay-TV subscriptions limiting their streaming options.

CBSN and the upcoming NBC News Signal are also boosting their free streaming news programming, with an emphasis on general news, not business news.
