Postal worker killed while delivering mail in Shreveport, police say

SHREVEPORT, La. – A U.S. postal worker died Saturday after he was shot multiple times while on his mail route, the Shreveport Police Department confirmed. The victim was identified as Antonio Williams, 52, of Shreveport, according to a news release from the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office.

Williams died just after noon at Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, where he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred outside of some town homes around 11:20 a.m., police said.

“We do believe that he was actively serving as a mailman during the time he was shot,” Detective Angie Willhite told The Times.

Police said they believe two suspects are involved in the shooting, but the names of the suspects have not been released. The suspects are not in custody.

A Postal Service investigator has become involved in the case, police said.
