Bulls-Thunder scuffle: NBA suspends two players, fines three

The NBA has suspended Oklahoma City’s Dennis Schroder and Raymond Felton one game without pay for leaving the bench and has fined the Thunder’s Jerami Grant $20,000, Chicago’s Robin Lopez $25,000 and Chicago’s Kris Dunn $15,000 for their roles in an altercation during Monday’s game between the two teams. The incident started when Dunn pushed Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook. Grant ran across the court and got in Dunn’s face. Lopez then charged at Grant, and the pair scuffled near the Thunder bench.

Bulls coach Jim Boylen, among other coaches, rushed in to break up the altercation and ended up extracting Grant from the mess with his arm around Grant’s neck area. Boylen was not reprimanded.

Since players are not allowed to leave the bench, referees, coaches and players on the court are the ones who can break up and defuse a heated situation, and the NBA had no problem with Boylen’s actions.
