The Celtic left-back played on the opposite flank in Scotland's World Cup qualifier.
Scotland saw their World Cup hopes dashed as they could only draw 2-2 away to Slovenia on Sunday evening.
Gordan Strachan's side took the lead courtesy of Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths, but a second-half brace from Roman Bezjak left the visitors in disarray and a late Robert Snodgrass equaliser was not enough to inspire a famous win for the Tartan Army.
After the match, Strachan's team selection came in for criticism, with Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney 's position on the opposite flank one area of contention.
The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young left-backs in Europe, but Strachan opted to select the Celtic youngster on the right with Liverpool's Andy Robertson taking his position on the left.
Ultimately the decision, and a few more besides, backfired and Scotland have been left to rue what might have been.
Tierney has been in fine form for Celtic this season, featuring 17 times already this season and scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.
While the youngster has featured for Celtic at centre-back on occasions, right-back is arguably his weakest position in the back line.
After the latest international we took to Twitter to see what fans thought of the Celtic full-back's performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Tierney is easily a better player at left back so he should be playing in that position. Push Robertson on maybe a shout
— Jamesgogs (@jamesgogs5) October 9, 2017 Spot on michael watching us sit in for 80 odd mins in a must win game was awful viewing, as was selecting mcarthur and bannan, tierney @rb
— chivs (@CHIVS105) October 9, 2017 Tierney is a left back. Strachan is playing him out of position on the right. Play him on the left and you will see a fantastic player.
— Owensy (@G47655965) October 9, 2017 I'm gonna say it: Kieran Tierney can't play at right back. Square peg, round hole. #SFA #SVNSCO #Scotland #Celtic
— Mark Lees (@Lees9000) October 9, 2017 Surely saying Tierney being overrated is a joke?? am no a Celtic fan but he’s probably the best young if not all round full back in Scot!
— Kieran Barnes (@Kieran_Barnes10) October 9, 2017 Thing to me is..tierney should be ahead for left back place..proven in bigger games and a regular starter
— Electronic Tims (@ETimsNet) October 9, 2017 Think you're being harsh on tierney he only got nutmegged 3 times
