UB basketball clinches No. 1 seed for MAC Tournament with win over Ohio

The University at Buffalo men's basketball team clinched the No. 1 seed for the Mid-American Conference Tournament Tuesday night with an 82-79 victory over Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

The 19th-ranked Bulls improved to 27-3 overall and 15-2 in the MAC. It's the second straight year UB has earned the top seed for the MAC Tournament. The Bulls will play a MAC quarterfinal game at noon on March 14.

Senior forward Jeremy Harris led the Bulls with 20 points, while senior forward Nick Perkins and senior guard CJ Massinburg had 17 apiece.

UB closes its regular season against Bowling Green at 6 p.m. Friday at Alumni Arena. The game is on ESPNU.

The Bulls have a three-game lead atop the conference. Bowling Green and Toledo are tied for second at 12-5. Bowling Green lost to Akron Tuesday, which would have clinched UB's No. 1 seed even if the Bulls had lost.

The Bulls have won the MAC Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament three of the past four seasons.
