Bills add running back Devin Singletary in third round

A crowded Buffalo Bills running back room will have to make room for one more.

With its third-round pick, No. 74 overall, the team selected Florida Atlantic running back Devin Singletary. He joins a running back depth chart in Buffalo that already includes LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore, T.J. Yeldon, Senorise Perry, Marcus Murphy, Keith Ford and Christian Wade.

Singletary, 5-foot-7 and 203 pounds, put up video-game numbers in 38 college games.

Nicknamed "Motor," he rushed for 4,299 yards and 66 touchdowns on 714 attempts, and also added 51 catches for 397 yards and another score. He earned Conference USA MVP honors and was a first-team all-conference selection in 2017, leading the nation with 32 rushing touchdowns, tying for the national lead with 301 carries and ranking fourth with 1,920 yards (6.4 yards per carry).

Singletary's selection will undoubtedly lead to questions about what the Bills' plan is at the position. On the surface, there are not enough roster spots available for the number of backs they have. McCoy's future in particular will be closely monitored. He's scheduled to count $9.05 million against the salary cap in the final year of his contract, and the team can save $6.425 million of that through a trade or release.
