(AFP PHOTO/TARIQ MAHMOOD/Getty) March 15, 2019 at 2:56 am Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry yesterday announced that it had arrested 825 suspects in smuggling weapons and drugs over the last three months.

“Over the last three months, the Saudi security patrols managed to thwart attempts to smuggle 52 tons of Khat, 157 kilograms of cannabis, a total of 209 different weapons, and 16,166 loaded ammunition,” the ministry’s spokesperson, Talal Al-Shalhoub, told local media.

The authorities, Shalhoub pointed out, had arrested 825 defendants, reserved a total of 1,130,159 Saudi riyals, and confiscated 743 vehicles in various cases during this period.

He explained that security operations took place in the context of “the implementation of security patrols and their support functions at the kingdom’s mountainous border areas in Jazan and Asir.”
