Semifinalists Ateneo and Adamson bested their opponents on Saturday to remain at joint third in UAAP men’s volleyball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Eagles edged the University of the East Warriors, 25-20, 25-12, 27-29, 25-15, while the Falcons defeated the La Salle Green Spikers, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, to improve to identical 9-4 cards with one match remaining in the two-round eliminations.
Incidentally, the two squads will be facing off for the No. 3 seed on April 28.
Ateneo banked on their sizzling offense led by Tony Koyfman and Ron Medalla, who merged for 24 of the team’s 50 kills to finish with 17 and 12 points.
Gian Glorioso also stepped up for the Eagles with 11 points while Ishmael Rivera and Chumason Njigha added nine points each.
Ateneo also provided a tough defensive wall at the net with 12 blocks including four from Koyfman and two from Njigha.
Adamson also overpowered La Salle in attacks, 56-39, with Paolo Pablico and Leo Miranda combining for 27 kills.
Pablico finished with 18 points while Miranda chipped in 13 points.
Carlo Jimenez also stepped up for the Falcons with 35 excellent sets on top of six points.
