Everton have already been turned down by Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez after Ronald Koeman was sacked in October.
David Unsworth has spent five games in caretaker charge of Everton.
In that time, The Toffees have been knocked out of the EFL Cup and the Europa League and won just once – and even that single victory would have been prevented had Watford’s Tom Cleverley not missed a last-minute penalty with the score 3-2.
And while Unsworth is hugely popular at Goodison Park, and Bill Kenwright’s preferred option to take over on a permanent basis per The Mirror , the 44-year-old hasn’t exactly aced his audition to take over from Ronald Koeman.
Speaking on Jim White’s show on talkSPORT, broadcast on 23 rd November at 10am , Ray Parlour believes that Unsworth simply does not deserve to get one of the biggest jobs in English football – particularly with Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino for company in the top flight.
“I don’t think David Unsworth has done enough to become Everton manager. Look at the managers ahead of him in the top six, he can’t compete with them,” former Arsenal and Middlesbrough midfielder Parlour said.
“The standout candidate to me is Rafa (Benitez). I know there’s that Everton Liverpool connection but the top candidate is Rafa.”
Unlike Unsworth, Benitez has proven himself at the highest level having won the Champions League with Liverpool, the Europa League with Chelsea and La Liga with Valencia.
