LAS VEGAS —Manny Pacquiao locked himself up in his 29th floor Skylofts suite at the MGM Grand where the Filipino star did his light workout on Thursday, the eve of the official weighin for his Saturday world welterweight night duel with Keith Thurman at the Grand Garden Arena.

According to his right-hand man Sean Gibbons, the 40-year-old Pacquiao just skipped rope and shadowboxed.

“That’s all he did,” said Gibbons.

The decision to take a break from all the training, morning and afternoon, was a welcome development for Pacquiao’s training team, which had difficulties putting the cuffs on the fighter since last week in Los Angeles.

Pacquiao did a satellite tour at the arena and thought about going out for a light workout but opted to just stay indoors as temperatures hit over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.7 degrees Celsius).

Even at sundown, the weather remained scorching at 32 degrees Celsius.

On Friday afternoon, Pacquiao and Thurman are going to weighin in officially.

Pacquiao’s trainers want him to come in at 145-146 lbs and about 150-152 lbs when he answers the bell Saturday night.

“I expect Thurman to be close to 160 by fight night,” said conditioning coach Justin Fortune, who was relieved that Pacquiao didn’t proceed with the afternoon training.

The welterweight limit during the official weighin is 147 lbs.

Pacquiao kicked off the US training camp more than four weeks ago after the initial phase of the preparations in Manila.
