MPBL: Super Crunch streak continues

The Makati Super Crunch are in serious business to make winning as a habit in the MPBL Datu Cup.

For the 14th straight game, the Super Crunch claimed another victim and added the Laguna Heroes to the list following a 76-65 win Wednesday night at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

The win allowed Makati to vault its way back to the second spot of the northern division. They now carry a 20-4 card and can wrap up its elimination round campaign with another win that could give the squad a milestone in its next game against Quezon City.

Quezon City bounced back from a mediocre showing last time around and came up with an inspiring 80-71 triumph over Imus in the second game.

Following their latest win, the Black Mamba Energy Drink-sponsored Capitals firmed up their hold of the sixth spot with an 11-11 record in the northern division.

With its big guns back in the lineup, Quezon City was able to find the balance in the offense.

Jay Collado and Hesed Gabo each had a double-double performance while Mon Mabayo had a productive night as Quezon City won in front of its fans.

Collado, the team’s premier big man, finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Gabo, on the other hand, had 14 markers on top of 11 assists, but it was Mabayo’s performance that proved to be the much-needed lift for the Capitals.

Mabayo had 13 points and six rebounds.

“We really need this one. Right now, we’re at No. 6 and hopefully, we could move farther,” said Quezon City coach Vis Valencia.
