Fr. Martin’s Cup: Golden Tigresses remain perfect

Adamson University banked on baskets off steals to upend De La Salle, 64-61, in the women’s division of the 25th Fr. Martin’s Cup Summer League held on Saturday at the San Beda Gymnasium in Manila.

After back-to-back triples by Bea Dalisay that cut a late nine-point cushion to three, Natalia Prado kept the Lady Archers at bay after scoring on a layup off a steal to give the Lady Falcons a 62-57 cushion with 50.3 seconds left.

La Salle quickly scored in the next play and had a chance to force overtime. But another Adamson steal led to the marginal layup from Leslie Flor with 4.5 ticks to play.

The crucial baskets preserved a 25-point outburst from Prado for the Lady Falcons, who took the lead for good after limiting the Lady Archers to just 10 points in the second quarter.

Dalisay finished with 13 points for La Salle, which despite ending the first quarter ahead, 18-13, failed to sustain the said good start.

In the other women’s division play, University of Santo Tomas blew past the University of the East, 73-62 to preserve their pristine record (4-0).

The Golden Tigresses pulled away from the Lady Warriors thanks to a 25-point third quarter showing.

In the lone juniors game, Treston International High School drubbed Diliman Preparatory School, 86-64.
