Eleven EAHS Student Athletes Announce College Decisions -

It’s that time of the year again. The time when various student-athletes from Elizabethtown Area High School announce their plans to play at the collegiate level.

The Bears held their annual Athlete Recognition Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6, with another planned for sometime in the spring to cover any students who make their college commitments later. Eleven Elizabethtown athletes were honored by their coaches and teammates while simultaneously making their final decisions for college sports.

Both the girls basketball and the girls lacrosse teams saw two players each officially make their choice. For the former, Marena Lonardi and Sydney Pierson committed to Lock Haven and Kutztown, respectively.

Lonardi is a two-time Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star and was recognized as last season’s Section One Player of the Year. She averaged 21.4 points per game this year to win the league scoring title and passed the 1,000-point mark for her career as well. Pierson was also an All-Star in 2018; she’s second with just under 9.6 points per game this season for the Lady Bears.

Cyrose Conteh will join Pierson at Kutztown as part of the women’s lacrosse team. She scored 40 goals in 2018, good for third on the team. Sami Shutt will be the other women’s lacrosse player in college for the Lady Bears at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; she was named as a first-team defender for the L-L League All-Stars last season.

The Elizabethtown football team will also be sending two of its players to play collegiately. Zach Kreider will join Lock Haven as an offensive lineman. He was an honorable mention for the Section Two L-L All-Star team and was also recognized as an Academic All-Star. Punter Collin Hudak will go to Lincoln College as well.

As for the other prospective college athletes, Larry Locker has committed to the York College men’s basketball team. He became the all-time leading scorer in Elizabethtown program history this season by passing 1971 graduate Terry Marks’ record of 1,087 points. Locker also earned Section Two All-Star nods the past two seasons and finished third in league scoring this year with just under 19.6 points per game, in addition to a league-leading 165 field goals made.

Nick Kreider will join the baseball team at Randolph-Macon College. He made the first team for Section Two All-Stars last season as an infielder, leading the Bears with a .483 batting average and ranking fourth on the team in hits with 22. Connor Krisko will attend Juniata College and compete on the men’s golf team. He was second on the team and 11th in Section Two with an 89.7 scoring average.

Lastly, Ally DeBerry will be going to Mount Aloysius College to play women’s soccer. She was the lone player to start every game this season and was a first-team All-Star in Section Two. Sadie Seaman is also set to join the softball team at Oberlin College. She led the Lady Bears with 2 home runs in 2018, also notching 15 hits, 14 runs and 10 RBIs.
