Creditable run for Gavin Green at Swiss golf tourney

PETALING JAYA: National golfer Gavin Kyle Green registered a creditable tied-12th at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland on Sunday (Sept 1).

The 25-year-old entered the deciding day at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana just two shots off the pace, but could not mount a strong challenge for the title.

He sank an eagle, two birdies and four bogeys to sign for a one-over 71 to finish in a eight-way tie for 12th on 11-under 269 total.

The thrilling finale saw Sweden's Sebastian Soderberg prevailing in a five-man playoff where he birdied the first extra hole to see off Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, Argentina's Andres Romero, Italy's Lorenzo Gagli and Kalle Samooja of Finland.

All the five completed the regulation play on matching 14-under 266s.

Despite missing out on another maiden European Tour win opportunity, Gavin can still take heart from his consistent performance of late.

The latest result in Switzerland marked his eighth top-20 finish in 20 starts this season.
