Ceres-Negros XI triumphs

by Jonas Terrado

Ceres-Negros overcame a hat trick by Green Archers United’s Jimuel Ariola to come away with a 4-3 win Wednesday in the Philippines Football League at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

The Busmen held off the Ariola-led Green Archers’ comeback attempt from a 4-1 deficit to claim their fourth straight victory and move to second place in the table with 13 points, two below league-leading Kaya-Iloilo.

OJ Porteria, Stephan Schrock and Spanish striker Bienvenido Maranon scored for the Busmen in the win that came before two high-profile matches against Stallion-Laguna and Kaya.

Ceres plays Stallion on Friday before taking on Kaya on July 10.

Ariola struck in the 11th, 39th and 53rd minutes but couldn’t help Green Archers salvage a tie to remain fourth place with 10 points.

The defeat also snapped Green Archers’ four-game unbeaten streak (three wins and one tie) that started after losing to Kaya in the season-opener.
