AFC Cup: No slowing down Ceres-Negros FC

by Ernest Hernandez

Following two games in the “Group of Death” at the 2019 AFC Cup, the Ceres-Negros FC now appear to have targets on their backs with an undefeated record.

Becamex Binh Duong and Shan United already had a taste of what Ceres can do. It wasn’t easy but top scorer Bienvenido Maranon believes it is a testament of hardwork.

“It was a difficult game. It wasn’t easy because we know what we have to do, and we kept on training for around two weeks for this game, so this helped us win the game,” said Maranon.

“In the beginning, they were controlling the ball and basically everything. But we know in the counter attack we can attack them and then we were lucky to score the first goal. We played better and we did many good things,” he added.

Despite time constraints before the season, it has been remarkable on how the Negros-based squad has been dominating so far. In fact, Maranon currently leads the league in goals scored with four.

Wary of their next opponent, the Spaniard shared that their approach remains the same and that they will continue to work even harder as the season progresses.

“We have to control everything, and we have to be focused. If other teams will try to target me, there’s many good players that we have and they can do a good job,” bared the striker.

Ceres’ next assignment will be against Persija Jakarta in the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod on April 3.
