NCAA tournament bracket revealed to start March Madness

6:51 p.m.: Some early analysis. Picks for the regions: East: Duke

Midwest: Kentucky

South: Tennessee

West: Texas Tech Teams to watch make runs above their seeds: Iowa State, Kansas State, Murray State, Nevada, Oregon, Villanova 6:44 p.m.: Explanation for No. 2 line by committee chair Bernard Muir doesn't seem to make sense. Said Michigan State jumped Kentucky on the No. 2 line and then moved the Spartans to the region with the No. 1 overall seed with Duke. Would have made more sense for MSU to go West with Gonzaga and put Michigan in the East. Wolverines got the better bracket after losing three times to the Spartans. 6:38 p.m.: The bubble burst for North Carolina State, Indiana, Texas and UNC-Greensboro. TCU might have the biggest surprise. Too many losses for the Hoosiers and Longhorns. Not strong enough schedule for the Wolfpack. All were likely knocked out by some of the bid thieves this weekend. 6:32 p.m.: Full West region No. 1 Gonzaga vs. No. 16 Farleigh Dickinson/Prairie View A&M

No. 8 Syracuse vs. No. 9 Baylor Bulldogs get the fourth No. 1. Loss to Saint Mary's didn't hurt them too much. An interesting battle of zones between Syracuse and Baylor. No. 5 Marquette vs. No. 12 Murray State

No. 4 Florida State vs. No. 13 Vermont You want your fun 5-12 game then you have it here. Marquette and Murray State will be an up-and-down game. And waiting for them afterwards should be the Seminoles, who are big and deep. No. 6 Buffalo vs. No. 11 Arizona State/St. John's

No. 3 Texas Tech vs. No. 14 Northern Kentucky So if Bobby Hurley and Arizona State win its First Four matchup, he will face his former school. Texas Tech is a big sleeper in this region. No. 7 Nevada vs. No. 10 Florida

No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 15 Montana. Weird to see Michigan get the advantage of a No. 2 seed in the West with Gonzaga while Michigan State, which won the Big Ten regular season and tournament and beat the Wolverines three times, have to play in the East against the No. 1 overall seed. Very unfair. 6:24 p.m.: Full Midwest region No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 16 Iona

No. 8 Utah State vs. No. 9 Washington So the Tar Heels are the third No. 1 seed from the ACC. That likely puts Gonzaga as the No. 1 in the West. No. 5 Auburn vs. No. 12 New Mexico State

No. 4 Kansas vs. No. 13 Northeastern Pretty low seed for Auburn which has been hot as any team in the country and just won the SEC tournament. New Mexico State is dangerous first-round opponent. Wow. So Kansas goes to Kansas City regional if they get past the first two rounds and UNC will have to face them there. No. 6 Iowa State vs. No. 11 Ohio State

No. 3 Houston vs. No. 14 Georgia State The Cyclones are really talented and just won the Big 12 tournament. Have a chance to make a serious run. Maybe to the Final Four. Houston got a high seed. We'll see if they can get to second weekend. No. 7 Wofford vs. No. 10 Seton Hall

No. 2 Kentucky vs. No. 15 Abilene Christian Really good to see committee reward Wofford for a great season. But Kentucky looms in the second round. And so now we have Wildcats and North Carolina in the same region. Teams met in the Elite Eight two years ago with a memorable shot by Luke Maye deciding things. Another repeat this year? EAST REGION : Bracket analysis, team capsules MIDWEST REGION : Bracket analysis, team capsules SOUTH REGION : Bracket analysis, team capsules WEST REGION : Bracket analysis, team capsules for West Regional 6:15 p.m.: Full South region No. 1 Virginia vs. No. 16 Gardner-Webb

No. 8 Mississippi vs. No. 9 Oklahoma So is it Gardner-Webb that becomes the second No. 16 to win? No. 5 Wisconsin vs. No. 12 Oregon

No. 4 Kansas State vs. No. 13 UC Irvine Ducks come in hot with eight-game win streak and Pac-12 tournament title. If Dean Wade is healthy, Kansas State could be dangerous to Virginia. No. 6 Villanova vs. No. 11 Saint Mary's

No. 3 Purdue vs. No. 14 Old Dominion. Defending national champion Villanova gets to face the team that just knocked off No. 1 Gonzaga in the West Coast title game. No. 7 Cincinnati vs. No. 10 Iowa

No. 2 Tennessee vs. No. 15 Colgate Vols likely lost their chance at a No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament final. But this is a good draw for them. Kansas State meeting Virginia in the Sweet 16 could be one decided by which team gets to 40 first. Very defensive oriented teams that will slow tempo. Wildcats made Elite Eight last year and could get there this year. All the top four teams have a good chance at making the Final Four. Very balanced. 6:06 p.m.: Full East region No. 1 Duke vs. No. 16 North Carolina Central/North Dakota State

No. 8 Virginia Commonwealth vs. No. 9 Central Florida Could see a Johnny Dawkins-led UCF face former school Duke in the second round. No. 5 Mississippi State vs. No. 12 Liberty

No. 4 Virginia Tech vs. No. 13 Saint Louis Hokies just beat Duke without Zion Williamson. Might meet up again in Sweet 16. No. 6 Maryland vs. No. 11 Belmont/Temple

No. 3 LSU vs. No. 14 Yale Huge for the Bruins of Belmont to get in at-large from the Ohio Valley. No. 7 Louisville vs. No. 10 Minnesota

No. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 15 Bradley And Richard Pitino will face his dad's former school in the first round. No coincidence there. Duke vs. Michigan State is a great possible matchup. Tough break for the Spartans not to get a No. 1 seed and then get put with the No. 1 overall seed? Very unfair. Seemed to have deserved better - even a possible No. 1 seed themselves. Rest of this bracket seems fairly weak. Can't seem Three ACC teams in the East is unusual unless there is more than seven teams. Could portend good news for N.C. State and Clemson on bubble. 6:01 p.m.: Duke announced as the No. 1 overall seed as expected. Devils will be in the East. 6 p.m.: It's official 6 p.m. ET and the selection show has started. They will start revealing the automatic entries. Just more than four months after the start of the college basketball season, the day everyone has waited for is here. Selection Sunday ends all the jockeying for positions and turns the focus to the NCAA tournament bracket reveal. The selection committee will release the field of 68 starting at 6 p.m. ET. And then March Madness will officially begin with seeding and matchups to contemplate. Stay tuned for live for the unveiling with news and analysis as teams see their dreams come true and bubble burst, plus the inevitable debate about seeds and which teams have the more difficult and easier paths to the Final Four in Minneapolis. This year, the broadcast will be different from last year when the field was revealed alphabetically before seeing the region those schools in the four respective regions. CBS will return to a more traditional approach by revealing the brackets first. The First Four will start the march with two games each on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving us with 64 teams remaining. The first round will be held on Thursday and Friday with a full schedule of 16 games on both days.
