Meghan Markle lands voiceover job on The Simpsons after Disney snub

The Simpsons producers have offered the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle , a voiceover job on the show. Meghan, who is married to Prince Harry , is reportedly keen to get back into acting after rising to fame on Suits.

Harry was filmed telling a Disney exec that Meghan was in the market for a voiceover job.

That didn't appear to elicit into a job offer from Disney, but it caught the eye of The Simpsons' showrunner, Al Jean.

He told RadioTimes Meghan was welcome to do a voiceover role on the show, which airs on Channel 4.

"We've talked about Harry and Meghan," he said.

"I hear she wants to do voiceover work, so if they're reading this, give us a call."

Harry was overheard highlighting his wife's interest in voiceover work to a Disney boss at the Lion King premiere last year.

The Simpsons' producers also discussed the controversy around the character of Indian store owner Apu.

It's been widely criticised as being racist, as the man who voices him is white and speaks in an Indian accent.

Actor Hank Azaria recently revealed he will no longer voice the character.

Jean, who has been with The Simpsons since its creation in 1989, said if they were casting the character now, they would cast someone who was ethnically correct to play Apu.

But he called the chatacyer "hardworking" and "thoughtful" emphasising the joke was always on the other characters for not appreciating him, and Apu himself was not the butt of the joke.

Meanwhile, the actress who voices Lisa Simpson revealed she wants climate campaigner Greta Thunberg to do a voice role.

Lisa was an environmental campaigner on the show long before Greta shot to fame with her school strike for climate movement.

Yeardley Smith, who has voiced Lisa since 1987, said it would be wonderful if if Greta played herself, passing through Springfield and realising she had a lot in common with Lisa.

Sir Paul McCartney famously made a guest appearance in an episode in which Lisa stopped eating meat, and show bosses had to promise to keep Lisa as a vegetarian.

He joked: "[Paul] is always surrounded by nine or ten lawyers, so it's quite frightening!"
