Liverpool Jurgen Klopp tipped to make Thiago Alcantara transfer promise

Jurgen Klopp is likely to have promised a starting role to Thiago Alcantara if the Bayern Munich ace joins Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window. Alcantara has entered the final year of his contract and is refusing to put pen to paper on an extension. A £31million move to Anfield has been mooted amid reports a four-year deal with the Premier League champions has been agreed.

And former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique is unsure whether Alcantara would be a wise addition.

“If they get him, definitely he’s going there because Klopp has called him and told him he’s going to be a starting player often," Enrique told Stadium Astro .

"I believe he will be a very, very good player for us but how much do you want to spend on this player and for how many years is he going to perform in your team? That’s what you have to look at as well.

"I’m not sure it would be the best fit, but he’s an unbelievable player, there’s no doubt about that, and he would make the starting line-up."

The Reds passed on a deal for Timo Werner for economic reasons, which allowed Chelsea to swoop.

Klopp will want to build on this season's title, however, and Enrique believes at least three signings are needed to ensure they're able to compete at the top again next year.

"I believe you need a left-back back up for Robertson," he said.

"You need that back-up because we've been very lucky with injuries.

Trending "The main players haven't got injured as much or they've always been available for the right games.

"For the front three I think you need one or two more players and maybe a playmaker as well.

"You could drop Firmino a bit as a No 10 and buy a new top striker but you need at least two or three signings."

Klopp was giving little away about Alcantara when asked for comment on the transfer speculation following Sunday's Premier League win against Aston Villa .

He said: "Would you be surprised if I didn't answer? He's a good player I like a lot but like many others out there."
