Kylian Mbappe to claim made in transfer plea to Jurgen Klopp

Former Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert has admitted Liverpool's kit deal with Nike led to him dreaming about the possibility of Kylian Mbappe heading to Anfield this summer. The Reds have been on a meteoric rise over the past few seasons under Jurgen Klopp.

The club's finances are in a strong position due to their recent success on the field.

That also follows on from the announcement that they signed a British record kit deal with Nike back in January to commence this upcoming season.

All signs were pointing towards a lucrative transfer budget for Klopp heading into the summer transfer window.

So far, Kostas Tsimikas has been the only signing with the focus currently being on areas where the club feel they need to strengthen.

Signing another forward had clearly been a top priority from their previous interest in Timo Werner.

And Lambert still wants to see his boyhood club sign another option up front to provide cover for Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

But Lambert saw the lucrative Nike deal as a potential sign that an even bigger transfer was coming for Liverpool in the form of PSG star Mbappe.

The France sensational has a major sponsorship with Nike and Klopp reportedly spent hours trying to convince Mbappe to join Liverpool back in 2017.

There is some connection between Liverpool and Mbappe and the recent Nike deal led Lambert to thinking a "dream" transfer would have been possible.

“You always dream, don’t you?" Lambert added.

“I was thinking with Nike taking over, every time you take over a team, they always have a marquee signing.

“I was hoping Mbappe or something.

“But I think he is out of our reach, to be honest.”
