Lampard was initially hopeful the French midfielder could return in time to face United this weekend, but the World Cup winner has since been ruled out.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Lampard said: "N'Golo Kante won't be fit for the match, he's still not right. So he's out.

"Other than that we have a few people with a few little niggles that I'll monitor over the next 24 hours or so, and then we'll be ready to go."

Additionally, Chelsea remain without Billy Gilmour after the Scottish youngster recently underwent knee surgery.

Marco van Ginkel is also highly unlikely to make the matchday squad but Fikayo Tomori is back in contention, having suffered an injury in training during lockdown.

Chelsea have faced United three times already this season, losing on each occasion - twice in the league and again in the Carabao Cup.
