Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window. But while they are currently the front-runners to sign the winger, they have been warned they run the risk of losing out to their rivals if a deal isn’t agreed quickly. Sancho has been in superb form for the Bundesliga club this season and he has already scored 17 goals and provided 19 assists in just 34 appearances in all competitions.

United have been long-time admirers of the Dortmund winger but according to ESPN , they could lose the player to another team if a bid in excess of £100million is tabled.

A source told the publication that United have become notorious for dragging their feet in negotiations and that they risk losing out to a rival unless they "get their act together quickly."

Sancho left Manchester City to join Dortmund for £8m in 2017 and he has flourished since making the move to Germany.

He has improved each season and has currently scored a total of 31 goals and provided 42 assists in 89 appearances for the club.

The teenager’s performances has also seen him break into Gareth Southgate’s England team, where he has scored two goals from 11 caps.

However, one factor in United’s pursuit of Sancho will be securing Champions League football next season.

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the table and are three points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

However, while a fifth-placed finish could be enough to secure Champions League football next season, because of Manchester City’s two-year UEFA ban, it is not guaranteed as City have launched an appeal to overturn this.

The report claims that failing to qualify for the competition could cost them in excess of £80m, which would not only make United a less attractive option but could also force them into having to sell players in order to raise the necessary funds, which could take time.

United’s lack of hustle in negotiations was also an issue for the club in the January window, when they lost out to Dortmund when trying to sign Erling Haaland.

ESPN claim that sources informed them that part of the reason for United’s failed approach was because of the actions of the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and contract negotiator Matt Judge. The report claims United took too long to allow their staff to speak to Haaland and sell their vision of what the striker could do for the Red Devils on the pitch.

Dortmund are resigned to losing Sancho in the summer, but United face competition for the winger from several top clubs across Europe including Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Bundesliga side are already looking at replacements for the 19-year-old and have identified one possible transfer target as Birmingham City's Jude Bellingham.

The 16-year-old is also a transfer target for United, and the youngster recently visited United’s Carrington training base to meet Woodward and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United failed in their attempt to sign Bellingham in the January window and instead turned their attention to securing a deal for Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon. Related articles
