Barcelona are keeping tabs on Philippe Coutinho’s loan spell at Bayern Munich after trying to offload him in the summer.

Coutinho struggled to adapt to Barca’s playing style after his club record move from Liverpool and so the Catalan giants tried to sell him to another team in the summer.

The La Liga champions tried to recoup the £142million they spent for the Brazil international last year but couldn’t find any suitors and so decided to loan him out to Bayern where he gained a new lease on life.

The Brazilian has made eight appearances for the Bundesliga champions so far and has made his way to Niko Kovac’s starting line-up thanks to a string of impressive performances. According to Marca , the 27-year-old’s incredible form has caught Barcelona’s eye and so the Blaugrana have sent representatives to watch him in action at least twice.

The Catalan giants had Coutinho written off after his move to Bavaria but it seems like they may be looking at him in a different way after his recent progress.

The former Inter Milan ace regained his old form mainly because he now plays in his natural position at No10, just like he did at Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Barcelona expect Bayern to exercise the option to buy at the end of the season and even splash £120m for the attacking midfielder. Bayern Munich star Philippe Coutinho struggled at Barcelona (Image: GETTY)

Kovac gave a strong indication that this is what the German giants have in mind when he sang Coutinho’s praises during a press conference two weeks ago.

The Bayern boss said: "Philippe speaks for himself really.

“I think everyone in the stadium today and everyone who watched the match once again saw the ability he has and the quality he has on the ball. Related articles
