Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gunners chiefs are still in talks with Saint-Etienne officials over William Saliba's future, with the two clubs at loggerheads over certain aspects of his loan deal. Saliba's future is still up in the air with two weeks to go before the final.

Having signed for the Gunners last summer, he was subsequently loaned back to Saint-Etienne to continue his development in their first-team squad.

However, as Ligue 1 was scrapped as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, his loan spell ended in late June.

As he isn't registered to play for Arsenal this season, he appeared set to stay in France for the Coupe de France final on July 24.

A short-term loan extension needed to be worked out between the two clubs, and a divide appeared once Arsenal made a specific demand to Saint-Etienne.

The Gunners reportedly told them that they wanted Saliba, who has been struggling with numerous injuries this season, to follow their training plan in the build-up to the final.

The player himself was said to be angered by this demand, and it appeared the French club would fail to negotiate an agreement to get him to stay.

However, Arsenal are now attempting to repair their relationship with the club, and are considering changing their minds on letting him stay without restrictions.
