The warning came from former Arsenal striker Alan Smith, who won multiple trophies with the Gunners including two league titles and the FA Cup.

Aubameyang could leave the club in the summer, as he is currently under contract until 2021 and he hasn't yet signed an extension.

The 30-year-old has been in fantastic form since he arrived at the north London club for a then club-record £56million in 2018.

So far in his Gunners career, Aubameyang has scored 61 goals and has provided 13 assists in just 97 appearances in all competitions.

However, there have been suggestions the striker is looking to play at the highest level and as Arsenal haven't managed to qualify for the Champions League since the 2106/17 season, there remains doubt over his future at the Emirates.

Smith thinks that if Aubameyang does leave, the club should still look at Martinelli as a prospect rather than as a striker who can fill the boots of the Gabon international.

"There's no question they've got talent inside the club," Smith told Sky Sports .
