Arsenal eye Man Utd and Chelsea transfer target to replace Aubameyang

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has renewed his interest in Manchester United and Chelsea transfer target Moussa Dembele and the Gunners see the striker as an ideal replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reports in France.

Aubameyang has created an issue for Arsenal this summer as the 30-year-old striker will soon enter the final 12 months of his contract and appears unlikely to sign an extension.

Arsenal do not want to run the risk of such a valuable player running down his contract and leaving the club for nothing and so are already looking at possible replacements if he is sold.

According to French publication L'Equipe , Arsenal have already opened talks with Dembele's representatives to make their interest known.

The 23-year-old had another great season for Lyon as he scored 22 goals in 42 appearances for the club in all competitions.

However, Arsenal are not alone in their pursuit of the Frenchman as United and Chelsea have also been following the striker closely.

United, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add another striker to his squad as the Norweigan has yet to sign a permanent replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who was sold to Inter Milan last summer.

As for Blues manager Frank Lampard, he wants to add sign another forward to provide competition for Tammy Abraham.

And all three clubs have been scouting Dembele extensively before football was suspended across Europe in March.

Dembele is under contract until 2023 and in normal circumstances, the French club would be seeking a fee of around £60million for him.

However, the report claims given the current market they may consider selling him for less than this amount, possibly even as low as £45m (€50m).

Dembele had a lot of attention from Premier League clubs in the January window and Lyon were impressed with how the player conducted himself during the process.

As a result, the French club would allow the striker to leave if a suitable offer was made.

Arteta knows he will be working with a limited budget in the upcoming window as the north London club have suffered financially from the coronavirus pandemic.

And last month he revealed that he has several plans in place for the summer transfer window.

"I'm planning two or three different scenarios that we can face," Arteta told Sky Sports .

"Depending on one of those three, we will be able to do more, less or nothing.

"We have to react daily. We don't know what the financial situation is going to be, we don't know the rules, the timing, the window. There are so many things we cannot control at the moment."
