Power restored to most Michigan customers after high winds

Officials from two utility companies reported late Monday that power has been restored to most of the customers who lost it during Sunday's high winds. Brian Bleau, a spokesman for DTE Energy, reported at about 9 p.m. that the lights were back on for 157,000 of the more than 160,000 customers who lost power. "While most storm-related outages have been resolved, many of the remaining outages involve the most extreme and/or remote damage to trees and equipment," the company said in a news release. And Debra Dodd, a spokeswoman for Consumers Energy, said of the 127,500 customers who lost power, only 5,800 were still in the dark Monday night. "We did have crews come in from three other states and we really appreciate their help because they helped us make a lot of progress," Dodd said. The remaining outages for customers of both utilities are expected to be restored by the end of the day Tuesday. Peak wind gusts on Sunday ranged from about 40 to 60 mph in southeast Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.
