Nursing homes in Erie, Niagara get emergency federal funding

Nursing homes in Erie and Niagara counties will receive a total of $19.6 million in emergency federal funding to help with increased expenses related to Covid-19.

Nursing homes nationwide will each receive $50,000, plus another $2,5,00 per bed. Locally, awards range from $150,000 to Eden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center to $1 million to Terrace View Long-Term Care Facility in Buffalo.

In addition to the awards in Erie and Niagara counties, the Western New York Veterans' Home in Batavia will receive $365,000.

In Erie County, 229 people have died from Covid-19 in nursing homes. There have been 38 deaths in nursing homes in Niagara County, according to the most recent data released by the state.

The larger local awards include $850,000 to Absolut Center at Aurora Park; $800,000 to HighPointe on Michigan in Buffalo; $730,000 to Beechwood Homes in Amherst; $675,000 to Our Lady of Peace in Lewiston; $650,000 to Brothers of Mercy in Clarence; $625,000 to Autumn View in Hamburg; and $600,000 to Williamsville Suburban.

The funds were included in the CARES Act that was approved by the House on March 27, according to Rep. Brian Higgins.

Nursing homes in New York State received a total of $317.8 million, out of $4.9 billion distributed nationwide.
