Democratic debate in Detroit sparks concern about time limits

It's Democratic debate night in Detroit. The presidential showdown has included plenty of what can only be expected to happen when people vying for attention stand next to each other: Raised voices. Interruptions. Moderators off cutting eager candidates mid-word. But some are questioning whether CNN's strict enforcement of time limitations make for a frustrating night for all. Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, tweeted that the debate appears to have "game show rules" and that candidates are "trying to be President — not win a Buick!" Candidates are offered 60 seconds to respond to a question from a moderator, and 30 seconds for responses and rebuttals when attacked by name, according to CNN debate rules. A yellow light appears when a candidate has 15 seconds left, a flashing red light for 5 seconds remaining and a solid red light for no time left. Candidates who consistently interrupt their fellow debaters will have their time reduced, according to CNN. Ten candidates debate each night for two hours. Other Tweets complaining of the time limits have garnered lots of attention.
