Puerta Real in Intramuros Is Now an Arts Space

With all the recent restoration efforts being carried out in Intramuros, going to the Walled City of Manila has become even more inspiring. We saw the opening of Museo de Intramuros in May, and we're looking forward to the launch of Maestranza Creative Quarter in 2020. A new cultural center— Likha-an: Lunduyan ng Tradisyonal na Sining at Kultura (Resource Center for Philippine Living Traditions)—is set to open today, August 15, with an all-day event starting at 10 a.m. It is free and open to the public.

Luna Street, Likha-an is dedicated to promoting and preserving the Philippines' traditional arts through public events and engagements. Likha-an or likhaan means "a space for creation," and it couldn't be more apt for a venue that allows dialogue between local artists and the community. The new resource center features a reading room (Pag-aaral), a showroom and selling area (Pamilihan) that's open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., a garden area (Palabas) for performances, workshops and living spaces (Pahingahan) for visiting artists from the regions, and a roofdeck cafe (Kape at Kainan).
