Pierce Brosnan and His Sons Style

James Bond is a character in flux. We don't just mean a rethink of the rules following the recent goings on in Hollywood, either. Just as Roger Moore presented a unique Bond, so too did Pierce Brosnan, the chandelier-tonsiled rogue with a propensity for explosions. That means the clothes change too. And, at a West Hollywood Golden Globe Ambassador Party, Brosnan and sons presented every iteration of James Bond past, present, and future.

For the frontman of 1995's GoldenEye stuck to the threads that (partly) made him famous. This is the ghost of James Bond's past: classic blue suit, big wide tie, old school Swiss watch, which, in this instance, is a very reputable Speake-Marin Resilience model. It's got double entendres stitched into every seam. Then there's the softcore director sunglasses Bond wears when disguised as a data baron on Havelock Island, and a complementary color palette that would make Miss Moneypenny accidentally staple her own hands in a fluster. It works as well now as it did then. But, just as suits are enjoying some wriggle room of late, this is traditional territory that won't distress the gammons.

Today's Bond could be a bit more contemporary, a bit more Paris Brosnan (the youngest son, the one with a Ralph Lauren campaign behind him and a very adoring Instagram following). For in the shape of the standard two-piece, there's a pouring of a color once reserved for funerals: jet black. We never did see M's big send-off in Skyfall, but you can imagine Daniel Craig in a suit that looks a lot like this. What's more, the art of darkness is now suitable for a litany of non-death-centric events. Just ask Mahershala Ali.

But lest we forget Dylan Brosnan: a Saint Laurent alumni, an anti-Bond who could present a way forward for the character. Who's to say Bond won't be a long-haired, flare-wearing Gucci dandy that eschews ties? Well, plenty of Daily Mail readers, that's who. But they're not in charge of iconic British action franchises, thank God. Although 007 isn't destined to be a #woke bro (not according to newly-enlisted screenwriter, Phoebe Waller-Bridge), there's every reason he could be a little bit different. Or in this case, a little more in-step with today's appetite for the air tie and lapels on steroids and sandy-colored two pieces.

None of us can predict what'll follow Daniel Craig's final outing in No Time To Die . But with that Bond recently wearing suits that aren't at all MI6 material, there's every reason to believe that Brosnan's brood could well shape the wardrobes of superspies to come.
