As a bundle of economic rights, copyright can, most certainly, be a source of power and allow the owner control over how the work is consumed/used by others. For artists, it can also be a significant source of income. In some industries the balance between author/copyright owner/consumer or the public can definitely be skewed towards one set of interests more than others.
