Daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres said Wednesday that she would never allow President Trump to be a guest on her show because she thinks he poses a threat to the country and to her personally.
The openly gay comedian broached the topic when she asked NBC’s Megyn Kelly whether she would consider having the president on her new morning show, “Megyn Kelly Today,” which launches Monday.
“Definitely,” Ms. Kelly responded. “I mean, I would not say no to the sitting president of the United States.”
Likewise, Ms. Kelly asked Ms. DeGeneres if she would say no to Mr. Trump.
“Yeah,” the host said matter-of-factly, much to her audience’s delight. “I would not have him on the show.
“I mean look … he is who he is and he has enough attention and he has his Twitter account and he has ways to get his message across,” she said. “There’s nothing I’m going to say to him that’s gonna change him, and I don’t want to give him a platform because it validates him.
“And for me to have someone on the show … I have to at least admire them in some way,” she added. “And I can’t have someone that I feel is not only dangerous for the country and for me personally as a gay woman, but to the world. He is dividing all of us.”
Ms. DeGeneres made similar comments while speaking to “Today” show host Matt Lauer in May, saying she wouldn’t host the president on her show because he goes against “everything” she stands for. LOAD COMMENTS ()
