Fil-Peruvian guard Val Chauca spearheaded the assault, Adamson pouncing on the Tigers with a 16-0 run to erase a 71-62 UST lead en route to its third victory in five games.

The win not only eased Adamson’s pain of losing to University of the Philippines in overtime over the weekend, 83-82, but also tied UST for a share of third.

Chauca scattered 13 of his 18 points in the fourth period including 11 in that pivotal three minutes. He also had six rebounds and eight assists.

“This game is all heart,” said Chauca. “We knew the game plan and we just fought till the end.”

The Falcons silenced the Tigers in the last 4:30 of the game and outscored them, 30-13, in the fourth quarter to negate a 58-48 UST advantage.

Jerrick Ahanmisi pumped in 24 points while Lenda Douanga chipped in nine points and nine boards.

Soulemane Chabi Yo scored 17 points and 15 boards in a losing cause for UST, while CJ Cansino, Sherwin Concepcion and Mark Nonoy finished with 10 points each.

Earlier, University of the Philippines warded off National University, 80-79, for its second straight win.

The Maroons held on to their lead after Dave Ildefonso’s triple cut the Bulldogs’ deficit, 80-79, with 11.3 seconds left to hike UP’s tally to 3-1 behind unbeaten Ateneo (4-0).

David Murrell missed two both free throws for UP, but NU failed to capitalize on the opportunity as John Lloyd Clemente’s game-winner attempt went short.

Kobe Paras erupted for 25 points and six rebounds while Bright Akhuetie shone for 19 points and 12 boards for the Maroons, who rallied from a 23-18 first quarter deficit.

Javi Gomez De Liaño also stepped up for UP with 17 points, while Jaydee Tungcab, Jun Manzo and Ricci Rivero combined for 14 points.

NU absorbed a fourth straight loss, three of those one-point defeats.

Ildefonso scored 25 points while Issa Gaye had 13 points and 13 boards in failed attempts for the Bulldogs.

In the third game, Pat Tchuente scored 19 points and 11 rebounds as Far Eastern University dumped De La Salle, 66-55.

Wendell Comboy added 11 points including three triples while Barkley Ebona and Rey Bienes combined for 17 points and eight boards for the Tamaraws, who stayed at the middle standings with 2-2.

Jamie Malonzo had 20 points and 10 boards in a losing effort for La Salle, which fell to 1-3.
