Danish golfer Thorbjorn Olesen has been charged with sexual assault, common assault and being drunk on an aircraft. He is scheduled to appear in an English court on Aug. 21. Also Tuesday, the European Tour suspended Olesen pending the investigation into his arrest. In a statement, the tour also said it would have no further comment while the legal matter proceeds. Olesen, who played on Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team in 2018, was arrested on July 29 after a flight from Nashville to London following the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational in Memphis. Olesen allegedly assaulted a sleeping woman and urinated in the aisle of a plane while drunk on the flight. The Sun reported that golfer Ian Poulter had to calm Olesen, 29, after Olesen was allegedly abusive toward passengers and crew in first class. Olesen allegedly assaulted the woman while Poulter slept. "He started abusing some of the passengers and crew and then made a pass at one of the female passengers before taking a leak in the aisle," one passenger on the flight told The Sun. "It was shocking behavior. You would expect it maybe on a budget airline but not in the first-class cabin on BA." Police were waiting for Olesen when the British Airways flight landed. He taken into custody and then released. "A man has been charged in connection with an incident on an inbound flight to Heathrow Airport on Monday, 29 July . . . Jacob Thorbjorn Olesen, 29, of Redcliffe Road, Kensington and Chelsea, was charged by postal requisition on Thursday, 1 August with sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft and common assault," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said . Olesen's attorney said his client "has cooperated fully with the police during their investigation, but while the legal proceedings are still ongoing he unfortunately cannot comment on this matter at this time." Olesen's appearance on Aug. 21 is set for Uxbridge magistrates court. Olesen finished tied for 27th in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude at TPC Southwind in Memphis. He defeated Jordan Spieth at Le Golf National in Paris 5 & 4 during singles play during the final round of Europe's 17.5 - 10.5 rout of the Americans in 2018. Contributing: The Associated Press
