Jalen Ramsey: 5 NFL contenders that should trade for Pro Bowl CB

Let's face it: The Jacksonville Jaguars never deserved Jalen Ramsey. It appears the NFL's best cornerback finally came to that realization on Monday when he demanded a trade after getting into a sideline confrontation with head coach Doug Marrone during Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans . The franchise's current leadership, which includes clueless curmudgeon Tom Coughlin , who was brought in to clean up the many mistakes made by inept general manager Dave Caldwell, who somehow kept his job, has squandered hundreds of millions of cap space and multiple first-round picks , and all they have to show for it is one flukey run to the AFC Championship . The one first-round pick Caldwell actually hit on was Ramsey — DE Josh Allen looks like he could be the second — and now he wants out. It's hard to blame him. The front office has sent subliminal shots at him . It wasn't willing to discuss a new contract this offseason , which would have actually helped the team save money in the long run. And the vanilla defensive scheme the Jaguars run doesn't suit Ramsey's immense skill set, which, reportedly, is one of the reasons he wants out of Jacksonville. It's looking like Ramsey will get his wish, which means the Jaguars will have given Blake Bortles a second contract ( that no other team in the league would have offered him ) while Ramsey will be in a new uniform before his rookie deal expires. This franchise is doomed. Jacksonville is demanding "at least one first-round pick" for Ramsey, which will inevitably turn into some defensive end who doesn't know how to play football. It's kind of this franchise's brand. Whichever team ends up landing Ramsey will be getting quite the return on investment: If traded, Ramsey, an elite player at one of the sport's most important positions, will cost his new team about $17.2 million over the next two seasons. Meanwhile, the Jags will be stuck with over $7 million in dead cap. Every team in the league should be interested in such a trade … well, except for the Jaguars, that is. So which teams should hop on the phone immediately and give the Jaguars a call? Let's pick out the five best landing spots for Ramsey: Kansas City needs a corner in the worst way, and this roster ready to win now. The Chiefs will play a decent amount of man coverage under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who will ask his corners to play up in opposing receivers' faces. That's perfect for Ramsey. The Eagles' problems in the secondary are well-document. The personnel deficiencies are exacerbated by Jim Schwartz's scheme, which routinely put his corner on an island. Ramsey would have no problem holding up in such situations. And we know GM Howie Roseman won't shy away from pulling off a blockbuster trade. Eli Apple played better after coming over to New Orleans in 2018, and his presence allowed the Saints to play more man coverage after the trade. But if the Saints defense is going to play at a Super Bowl level, they need a better corner to play opposite of Marshon Lattimore - especially with Apple off to a rough start in 2019. With Drew Brees nearing the end of his career, New Orleans can afford to go all-in. In Jaire Alexander, the Packers have a budding superstar at the cornerback position. But they don't have a whole lot behind him. For defensive coordinator Mike Pettine's scheme to operate at a high level, he needs another guy. How about the best corner in the game? Bill Belichick does not need another lockdown cornerback at his disposal, but this team is probably winning the Super Bowl anyway. Let's just give them ALL of the good players and see what happens. It would be fun to watch, at the very least. The Patriots played more man coverage than any NFL team a season ago, so Ramsey would get his wish.
