The American is unlikely to allow the Huskies to remain in the league as a football-only member. UConn was a founding member of the Big East in 1979 and became one of its marquee programs, thanks in large part to the success of its basketball programs. The Huskies won three men's basketball titles and eight women's hoops titles as a member of the Big East until its split in 2013.
