Slippery crims have stolen a stash of slithering snakes from a school in Melbourne's north east.

Police say the burglars broke into the Lilydale school sometime between May 18 and 20, stealing five snakes, three water dragons and a fish tank.

The four golden tree snakes, one green tree snake and three eastern dragons hold a commercial value. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
