NBN Co rebrands 'up to gigabit' as Ultrafast, defined as "500Mbps to ~1Gbps" - Telco/ISP

What I want to know, as someone from a developed nation with proper internet, is: why the hell is garbage like 500-1000/50 offered? More uplink speed would contribute a lot more to feeling like you have a solid, fast, connection and be more beneficial for using internet in a work environment. Say a designer uploading big design files to a printer, or uploading YouTube clips for the influencer, etc.
