Recent solar auctions in Portugal, Brazil etc have been very successful and with average rate being below Rs 1.4 per unit - with interest rates in India to dropping sharply, the rates in India too will close the large gap between the high rate (of Rs 2.4) and the Portugal rates. MNRE should hence be extremely cautious in accepting offers above Rs 2 / unit to avoid locking in supplies at higher price levels - given the extremely short time required to set up solar capacity.
