About the EYBL The EYBL was founded in April, 1998, when seven like minds from Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia met during an international tournament in Tallinn. That meeting gave birth to the idea of a system of competitions that would allow youth teams from the Baltic countries and Russia to regularly compete against one. Since humble beginning near the turn of the Century, the EYBL has since grown to comprise 180 teams, in five age groups, from 32 countries in Europe, and recently from the NBA Academy Africa. The EYBL is based on coaches, on their endless enthusiasm, fanatic devotion to the children, and passion for the game. Operating without a centralized budget, the EYBL is built upon a foundation of mutual trust, good will and decency. And, of course, a true love of basketball. The EYBL became Europe’s only officially FIBA-sanctioned youth organization in 2011.
