A mural dedicated to Jurgen Klopp has caused a stir after it appeared in Liverpool over the weekend.

Painting began on the street art on Jamaica Street, in the Baltic Triangle, on Saturday.

While the portrait of the Liverpool FC boss is yet to be finished, it has already prompted a strong reaction from both the red and blue halves of the city.

While many Liverpool fans can't wait to get a selfie with the manager's mural, some Evertonians slammed the new attraction. The artwork was painted on Jamaica Street, in the city's Baltic Triangle (Image: Geoff Davies/LIVERPOOL ECHO)

Twitter user @breakevenbrenda wrote: "Can someone take me to the Baltic triangle bc [sic] I want a selfie with the Jurgen Klopp mural and I ended up in Aigburth last time I tried to go there by myself."

Another Red was happy with the mural for cheekier reasons as @csh0rtyuk wrote: "A nice mural and a bluenose free Baltic Triangle. Why didn't we do this sooner?" The graffiti has divided opinion in the footballing city (Image: Geoff Davies/LIVERPOOL ECHO)

District Liverpool also tweeted its appreciation of the new artwork: "Great to have the new Klopp mural on the wall opposite our entrance.

"Thanks to @baltictriangle team for organising and a great spot for all those @aBOSSNight regulars looking for a photo with Klopp #kloppmural #lfc"

But some people are less than impressed with graffiti - in particular Everton fans.

Twitter user and obvious Toffees fan @paullamoefc wrote: "I won't be recommending Baltic Triangle to anyone" and @PJPOR tweeted: "I'll not be visiting again."

Meanwhile @BallysBoots said: "How to instantly alienate over half of the city. You couldn’t write it... {shakes head}."

Twitter user @MichaelTarpey1 wrote: "Why make a great area biased to one team, that shouldn't have anything to do with football. Have I missed something?"

Other fans predicted the artwork wouldn't last long before it is defaced. The creator behind the work is a street artist known as Akse (Image: Geoff Davies/LIVERPOOL ECHO)

The creator behind the work is a street artist known as Akse, the Liverpool Echo reports .

It is situated on Jamaica Street, at the corner of Brick Street close, to where the famous Liver Birds wings were painted.

When the Liver Bird wings mural was unveiled people couldn't get enough of the art work - with the spot becoming one of the most "Instagramable" places in the city.

The artist behind that mural was Paul Curtis. Like us on Facebook
